Valuation Coverage

Valuation is not insurance. It is a limited liability coverage in case of loss or damage. In the event of loss or damage caused by the company during your move, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®’s maximum liability is determined by the value at which you release your goods and the coverage option you choose.

Basic Coverage

This coverage is included in every move as required by law and covers lost or damage items at 60 cents per pound per article. This insures recovery at 60 cents multiplied by the weight of the item or the container it’s packed in. Thus, if an item weighing 20 pounds is lost or damaged, you can recover $12.00 for that item (60 cents x 20 pounds). This is very minimal protection and your goods are probably worth considerably more. This protection is included in the mover’s rate.

Actual Cash Value Protection

This protection ensures recovery at the actual cash value (i.e., fair market value) of your lost or damaged item(s), up to the total value you declare. The company charges for the actual cash value protection and will provide the rate upon request.

Full Value Protection

This protection insures recovery at the full value (i.e., replacement value) of your lost or damaged item(s), up to the total value you declare. The company offers deductibles in combination with full value protection and will provide the rates upon request. You are responsible for deductibles unless an item is lost by the mover.

Other Factors

Packing

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is experienced at professionally securing, packing and moving your valuable and delicate items. Whether you decide to pack your own household items or request that the company pack them is up to you.

If you choose to do your own packing, it is important to use appropriate packing materials and techniques to make sure that your goods are protected in transit. TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® may not be liable for any items that have been packed by someone other than a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® representative, unless the container itself has been damaged. If there is visible damage on the box itself that was caused during the move and the contents within have been damaged, the company will be held liable for that damage.

Items of Extraordinary Value

Items of extraordinary value, such as antiques, art objects, gold or silver articles, etc., should be separately described on the inventory and value declared for each. Be sure to list the items by description and value on the shipping document. It’s best not to ship money, jewelry, important papers or other valuable personal articles. Keep such items out of the reach of others and take them with you.

Filing a Claim

To report loss or damage of any of your items, call 916-852-7411 and ask to file a claim. The TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® representative you speak with will ask you questions about the lost or damaged piece such as age of the item, weight or dimensions. Within 2-3 business days of filing a damage claim you should hear from the Operations Manager who will work with you on resolving the claim. The Operations Manager will review the details of the claim with you and according to the valuation option you chose be able to reimburse you for the piece, replace the piece or repair the piece.
