If you work in an office, you know that coffee may seem like a lifesaving beverage for those long hours spent at work. If you need justification for your excessive coffee drinking habit, or don’t have a coffee brewer in the office, here are some benefits of drinking coffee at work.

Coffee keeps you alert. Caffeine is the most commonly consumed psychoactive drug in the world and it is also a stimulant. There are many studies showing that consuming caffeine helps workers perform better and, caffeinated workers tend to make fewer errors than their decaffeinated colleagues.

Coffee eases the “pain” of working behind a desk. Consuming caffeine has been found to ease pain in the neck, shoulders, forearms, and wrists that are often experienced by those who are chained to desks and keyboards.

Coffee could be a life saver, especially for older workers. According to the US National Institute of Health, people in their 50s and 60s who drink three or more cups of coffee a day have a 10% lower risk of death compared to those who don’t drink coffee at all.

People get more antioxidants from coffee than anything else.  While fruits and vegetables have a lot of antioxidants, the human body seems to absorb most of them from coffee.

Just smelling coffee can make you less stressed. According to research done at the Seoul National University, those who are exposed to coffee aromas experienced changes in brain proteins tied to that stress.

Coffee can make you feel happier. A study done by the National Institute of Health found that those who drink 4 or more cups of coffee were about 10 percent less likely to be depressed than those who had never drink coffee.
